WhatsApp has largely become a major part of our lives to easily interact and communicate with others nearby and globally. This app enables one to not only text message but also send media, videos, and links as well as does video and conference calls. These qualities have attracted billions of users all around the world.
As technology is rapidly advancing internationally, competitions are becoming more intense among app inventors to add or generate new ideas and create the latest features to meet the growing demand of users for better and appealing app functions.
WHATSAPP IS AT LAST TRYING TO MATCH UP WITH OTHER APPS LIKE SNAPCHAT AND TELEGRAM’S FEATURES:
Here is where the best part comes of WhatsApp adding a new feature to its already existing feature of removing messages after a 7 day period. This feature is not something relatively new to those who frequently use Telegram and Snapchat. While this feature has only been accessed in India, it will soon be available to use all over the world. This feature, unfortunately, can only be accessed in the latest or updated version of WhatsApp so not many will be able to obtain it.
HOW THIS FEATURE WORKS ON WHATSAPP: Open WhatsApp’s contact info, and scroll down to discover “disappearing messages”. It has already been disabled by default, to enable it to TAP the on button. While it is somewhat a nice feature, it has to be enabled for individual chats. Once that’s done, this feature will automatically delete any WhatsApp messages after 7 days. In Androids, users have to install version 184.108.40.206 and in iPhone, users have to install version 220.127.116.11.
DISADVANTAGES OF THE NEW FEATURE IN WHATSAPP:
With every advantage of any new feature comes a disadvantage. For the disappearing messages, it is that sometimes one doesn’t always open all messages at once but over a period of few days so with this feature enabled, the message will disappear after 7 days without any notice or reminder. This feature also doesn’t allow the users to decide on the duration of disappearing messages but gives only 7 days fixed.
Disappearing messages should only be used with the ones trusted as another person may at times take a screenshot and save. They may also copy and save the messages before it disappears or forwards it and save before the end of seven days. This sometimes may not be a pleasant thing as those messages might, at some point, be abused by the wrong individual.
As it is there are many disadvantages of WhatsApp features as much as there are disadvantages of WhatsApp itself. WhatsApp stores all its messages on the server even if those messages have already been deleted. This is a violation of “Human Rights” of privacy. To top it all off, the government has access to one’s messages if they need any information regarding an individual. This in itself is a huge disadvantage.
STORAGE OR BACKUP FOR WHATSAPP: One can use phone backup to store chats, media, and videos before they disappear. In iPhone, backup storage is in iCloud. In other phones, backup storage can be made or just screenshots of chats and media.
To conclude it all off, the new feature of WhatsApp seems great to be used for the long run as it decreases the storage space and enables the mobile phone to work in optimal condition. And with WhatsApp hacking common, this disappearing messaging is a better alternative to not save any chat or media that one doesn’t want. With this in mind, taking a risk with a new WhatsApp feature is not a bad idea after all.
